Employee appreciation letters are designed to document the performance of a worker or group of workers as part of keeping theme motivated. Many leaders use this tool to reward people that have gone above and beyond while others are interested in providing a continual stream of encouragement to their work force. The creation of this document should be completed with a great deal of caution.

Many of the suggestions that have proven to be effective in previous companies are actually quite practical to implement in any other kind of operation. Effectively creating a great document is quite easy when various factors are carefully considered.

Using generic wording can have the opposite effect of what is usually the intended purpose of the document. Specifically discussing what the efforts of the worker means and what it has done for the business is usually a best practice.

An additional consideration is taking the time to write the document. Hand writing is much more personal than typing as it shows the worker that time and effort were placed into its creation. Ensuring that writing is fully legible is also helpful in making sure the message is fully conveyed.

Any language that Is used in the document should be motivational and uplifting. Encouraging the worker to continually performed at their heightened level and discussing future benefits for doing so often have a positive outcome on their performance. Workers perform at higher levels when they are continually encouraged.

An employee appreciation letter should be offered to workers on a consistent basis. Establishing a program of rewards is helpful in getting all workers involved in being able to perform their duties at a heightened level of effectiveness. Consistently recognizing workers with written documentation allows them to look back on their accomplishments and strive to receive another letter.
