The third version of the iPad, also known as "the new iPad" was first released in March of 2012. The new iPad offers features that have never before been seen on a tablet computer. Though it was only officially available for 221 days, it had astronomical sales and was only surpassed on the market by the arrival of its successor, the iPad 4. The new iPad offered several upgrades to previous models, including a home button, ambient light sensor, a retina display, a 5 megapixel camera with HD recording capacity, 4G access and the new Apple A5X chip. It shipped with Apple's iOS 5.1, which included Apple's new virtual personal assistant, Siri. Like previous iPads, models came with a choice of black or white coloring and either 16, 32, or 64 GB storage capacity.
Along came the Google Nexus 7, which had a considerably lower price point and a more convenient screen size and changed the way that we use tablets - Apple certainly paid attention, at least in terms of the portability of their own device, because they have released the Apple iPad Mini.
Critics' Reception
Though critical reception was generally positive, especially for its retina display and overall performance, Apple could not escape criticisms in regards to specific functions of the new iPad. The tablet's 4G capability received particular criticism in the UK and Australia for failing to live up to the legendary 4G speeds advertized. This was not a problem in the U.S., where available networks operate on 4G standards.
3. iPad Transparent Slim Back Cover: similar to the iPad soft gripper skin, this iPad cover easily slips round the gadget without covering the touch screen, the keypads and the ports. The case has an attractive glassy finish and thus it makes the gadget look classy. It is a combination of protection and quality finish. As far as flexibility and usage convenience are concerned, the case is a good choice.
The 5mp rear camera performs OK in reasonable light but once you are in low light situations you will not enjoy the picture clarity or quality that it produces. The images may be OK for social networking but you won't really want to show them off to too many people.
As the new iPad ages, customers may find that theirs needs repairs. Every iPad comes with a complementary one year limited warranty (called AppleCare) on hardware repairs, and customers may choose to extend this to two years by purchasing additional coverage (called AppleCare+). Customers with valid AppleCare or AppleCare+ generally have any necessary repairs done by Apple, though some do opt to find a non-Apple repair shop.
For those that baulk at the price of Apple products, and don't see that the better design and some of the improved features may make it worth the investment, you are unlikely to see the value in the iPad Mini, especially when there is the likes of the Google Nexus 7 waiting for you. However, for those that really wanted an iPad but felt the device was either too big or a little too pricey to warrant buying then the iPad Mini is worth taking for a spin.
