Eating high amounts of fruits, vegetables, and nuts has been proven to eliminate toxins and other harmful substances from one's body. This is another benefit associated with such a meal plan. However, some individuals have side effects from a vegan eating plan, including stomach cramps, diarrhea, and other digestive issues.

In years gone by, those who feel such diets are dangerous cite a lack of protein. Protein deficiency can lead to numerous health problems. Other experts, however, state that people can maintain their protein levels simply by planning their meals wisely when following this type of diet. Some scientists believe that the amount of protein required by most human beings can be obtained solely from plant proteins. Additional studies are being completed to discover which group is correct.

There are numerous subcategories that fall under the traditional vegan diet. Certain individuals adhere to what is called a raw diet, where no food products are cooked. The philosophy behind this is that beneficial vitamins and minerals leach out of certain foods when they are cooked to a certain temperature; however, this depletion does not occur when the foods are consumed raw.

Naturally, those who order vegan food online and stringently follow the program do not usually carry excess weight. However, it is important to make sure that any diet in which one participates features a wide selection of vitamins and minerals so that the person will not become deficient in any particular nutrient.
