Do you know how to frustrate a burglar? Make his job hard. If a criminal breaks into your home, the harder you make it for him to find your valuables, the higher the probability that he will leave before he is able to find them and take them.

But you must think hard about where to hide things. Even though there are lots of places that sound like good hiding spots, it is likely that the crook knows about those spots too! They read articles on the internet too, and they are trying to figure out where people are hiding things.

Some of these no-no places to hide things include under your mattress. The burglar knows to look there! He will also likely look inside your refrigerator and in the pantry and in the cat litter box! In order to outsmart the burglar, you will have to find better places than these.

Rather, spend some time thinking about some of the unusual places that crooks would not think to look for your items. One idea is the garden shed in your back yard. Crooks do not usually think of garden sheds as housing expensive items. Put a fake floor in your shed and use it as a place to store valuables!

What about your mattress? Lots of people probably hide things under their mattress, but burglars know this. Rather, cut a hole and put things inside the mattress! A hole in your mattress can be sewed back up. Rotate the mattress so that the hole is up at the head of the bed.

You can also put in fake outlet boxes in your home and store small items inside it such as money and jewels. It is a rare crook that will take the time to use a screwdriver to open every outlet in your house to see if it is fake and if you have put treasures inside!
