As many as 8 of 10 individuals suffer from back trouble. While many approaches to relieve the pain are available, help from a Plantation chiropractor is natural and helps many patents to avoid the side effects of medication or dangers of surgery. As patients begin to find relief through chiropractic, the care provider offers the following tips.

Avoid prolonged bed rest and gradually return to your own normal schedule. Limit the time in bed to no more than two days to decrease the loss of muscle and bone mass and flexibility. When you return to work, you may need to limit the hours at first and may require modified duties to prevent injuring the back again. Activity is good as it prevents weakness or stiffness after injuries.

In addition to chiropractic therapy, make appropriate use of ice and heat. Ice can help to control pain and swelling of the injury during the first few days. Beyond that, heat therapy is best. Limit the use of both to 15 minutes three or four times daily.

Prevent more pain by improving your posture. Good posture balances the body weight and reduces muscle stress. Choose a chair that allows you to sit upright and provides support for the lower back. Try sleeping on the back with a pillow supporting the knees or on the side with the pillow between the knees.

During the first 30 days after the injury, avoid lifting, bending and twisting motions. Frequent changes to the body's position are helpful. When driving, use a pillow to provide support for the back in the vehicle.

Learn better ways to deal with stress. Pressures from family, work or finances reduce your pain tolerance. Take a walk or enjoy time with friends to deal with daily stress in a positive way. These steps can help to improve health and decrease serious health risks.

Work to strengthen and stretch the back with appropriate exercise. As soon as the pain improves start with the recommended exercises to keep muscles strong and flexible. The exercises help to prevent future injury and improve posture.
