Microdermabrasion Crystals And Their Use

When people age, the regeneration process of the skin starts to slow down substantially. During this process, the skin sheds the dead cells and replaces them with new cells. As this natural process gets slower, the dead skin cells accumulate on the surface of the skin. This can lead to a dullness, blocked pores, and a more pronounced appearance of wrinkles. For these issues, microdermabrasion crystals can be used to remove the accumulated dead skin cells.

At the salon or dermatologist, the process begins with a vacuuming of the skin to help stimulate blood flow and draining of the lymph nodes. This stimulation is designed to help the skin make new cells in a quicker period of time. After this initial vacuuming, the blasting begins.

Microdermabrasion is a less extensive version of dermabrasion. This procedure involves spraying the skin with a special type of crystal, called blasting. It is designed to remove the dead skin cells that have built up on the skin. After the skin is blasted, the cells and crystals are vacuumed away. Some machines are able to blast and vacuum simultaneously. Following the procedure session, the skin appears younger and feels much smoother.

Different types of crystals are available, depending on what the spa or dermatologist uses. Types made of baking soda or aluminum oxide are common. In some cases, a form of salt or a type that has a diamond tip may be available. Some places provide you with the choice while others will choose the one they feel is best suited for you.

There are various skin issues that microdermabrasion can address. It is the most beneficial for people who have a tired or dull appearance or an uneven skin tone. Many people prefer this procedure over dermabrasion because of the shorter recovery time and it is not invasive. The potential risks for discoloration and scars for people with darker skin tones are almost non-existent. This procedure does not require any numbing medicines either. There will be a pink-ish color to the skin that will usually return to normal within a day. Moisturizers and sunblock can be used, but makeup should be avoided until the pinkness subsides.

The potential side effects are minimal. Light sensitivity is common since the epidermis is the layer of skin the procedure deals with. Stay away from direct sunlight for the first day after the procedure and wear sunscreen. Some light spotty bruising and tightening of the skin may also be experienced in addition to some peeling.

More than one session is usually necessary. The average is about six, but you may need more or less depending on the results you desire. Generally, sessions are spaced two weeks apart to allow time for the skin to recover properly.

Although there are several options for the type of crystal that can be used with the procedure, not every spa or dermatologist will offer them. When you are considering the procedure, it is important to find out which places do the procedure and the experience level of the person who does it. The individual should have the skill to deal with any type of skin and various conditions.
