Divorce records in North Carolina are considered as an open document. This means that the residents of North Carolina can easily request copies of a divorce record if they find it necessary.

Married couple usually go for separation f they think that their marriage is no longer working. When they decide to separate, the separation has to be documented to make it legal and official. Such document is used in a number of ways. Transactions in the government would call for a copy of a divorce certificate especially if the couple would update their status in government records. It may be difficult to proceed with any of the request without such document since it would serve as proof of their separation. Only divorce records which have been registered since 1958 can be obtained in the state of North Carolina. One has to pay $24 to proceed with the retrieval of a copy of a divorce certificate. One has to know the basic details of the file that is being requested. The request form has to include all the required information as well as the personal details of the one who filed the request. The state of North Carolina allows residents to request for a copy of their personal files. The immediate relatives of the divorcees can also obtain the document in behalf of the divorcee.

The North Carolina Vital Records Section is responsible for managing the divorce records of the state. One has to go to the said office to obtain a copy of a divorce certificate. In cases where the needed document is not available at the state office, one can check with the county clerk office where the separation was registered and see if they can provide the document. One can also send a mail request but this method can take several days before the document can be obtained. Waiting can be avoided if one requests it from the Internet.

The development of the Internet has helped hasten the California divorce records search. There are a number of websites that offer to obtain a copy of a divorce certificate. Some even offer it for free while some at a reasonable fee. Many would prefer to pay for the search because of the quality of the results they can get from it.
