A thorough mold inspection and mold testing are key to preparing an effective plan for mold removal. There are a number of methods and pieces of equipment that aid an inspector in his search for mold. Today, I will shed light on what some of those methods are and introduce commonly used inspection tools.

One of the most commonly occurring biological contaminants within the home is mold. Mold is microscopic and cannot be seen with the naked eye, but it can trigger several health problems including allergic reactions, asthma attack, respiratory problems and so on. Thus, if mold becomes apparent to the eye or if unexplained health problems have been dogging the occupants, it is necessary to get a mold inspection done

Although more than half a million varieties of mold exist, only a small percentage of these have been identified. Of these, only a few are known to grow indoors and only about 1,000 of them are toxic to humans. However, there is little consolation to be found in this fact, mainly because even a single variety of toxic mold is enough to trigger health problems. Timely mold inspection and removal can prevent the growth of mold within the home. The growth of mold can also have a negative impact on building structures. Examples include peeling paint, crumbling insulation and so on.

Aside from testing for moisture, obviously, there is the testing of mold. The two most commonly used types of mold tests are tape lift testing and air sample testing. The tape lift method uses a clear adhesive film which can collect mold particles from a surface with suspect staining or growth. The results of these tests can classify the genus and quantity of the mold in question.

It is also important to note that individuals with asthma or any other types of respiratory condition should not try to get rid of the mold by themselves or be present while mold removal is in process. Through a professional inspection, they will find the source of the moisture in your inside environment, fix it, and then clean it up.
