If your relationships never last or if they are always filled with stress and pain, your partner may be a psychopath. If you feel the pain, you are probably the co-dependent in the relationship because psychopaths rarely feel pain. They rarely feel anything at all. Just to be clear, let me define what I mean by a psychopath. A psychopath is closely related to an addict.
Actually, a narcissist is the low-level, every day variety of psychopaths. Both are often addicts as well. And a non-psychopath who is an addict will behave so selfishly that it would be impossible to distinguish them from a full blown psychopath. For the sake of this article, I am putting them all under the banner of psychopaths. They all are selfish and destructive to anyone who cares for them.
A psychopath will have the following characteristics: (This is a partial list).
1.) Lack of fear.
2) Cannot feel empathy for others.
3) High Stress Tolerance.
4.) Charm.
5.) Manipulates others.
6.) Avoids responsibility.
7) Has no impulse control.
8.) Criminal tendencies.
9.) Does not feel remorse, although they will feel regret when things don't go their way.
10.) Uses others and lives off others.
Psychopaths do not apologize. They might pretend to apologize if they think doing so will get them something they want. But they cannot feel remorse, so they will never sincerely apologize. They apologize only to gain control. They do not change and they will never be fixed.
Emotionally healthy men or women instinctively avoid psychopaths. Only someone who was parented by a psychopath will tolerate them. In fact, they will be drawn to them like a moth to a flame. Psychopaths seek out people who have been conditioned to accept their dysfunctional dance.
When someone is raised by a parent or parents who are psychopaths, they are essentially brainwashed to play the role of victim. They know no other way to relate to their intimate partner. They are the co-dependent in this unhealthy relationship and may be thoroughly addicted to the psychopath. This is why escape is so difficult.
When someone who has been parented by a psychopath enters a room filled with a hundred strangers, they will be paired with a psychopath within twenty minutes. A psychopath is not aware that other people are real. Other people, even an intimate partner, are merely objects to benefit them.
A romantic relationship should enrich and enhance your life. If it does anything less, you are better off being alone. Honestly, love does not conquer all. Love cannot conquer addiction. It cannot overcome abuse or neglect.
