Spa neck wraps offer a simple, relatively inexpensive way of providing relief from muscle pain and stiffness. There are many individuals who suffer constantly from pain in their necks due to general stress and tension or specific chronic conditions. Heating a wrap in a microwave or chilling it in a refrigerator is possible and this makes it even more effective. The fillers and ingredients used in a wrap vary considerably and some work better than others. Always make sure that you know exactly what ingredients a wrap contains, including the fillers, herbs and essential oils used.

There are many of these products available, particularly from internet stores, all in different shapes and sizes. Fabrics used for covers also vary widely. Soft fleece, cashmere, flannel and velvet are all available in different colors. Those with contour designs and velcro closures ensure a good fit for maximum benefit. A cover needs to be able to be cleaned easily and a removable one that can be machine washed is often easiest.

A variety of different fillers are used for these products such as corns, beans, dry rice and seeds. Some are more comfortable than others and retain heat better too. Flax seeds are often chosen as they are smooth and flat and can retain heat for a long time. Flax seeds are also very resilient.

Herbs with soothing and relaxing qualities are often added to these products for added benefits. Many herbs are well known for their healing qualities, such as lavender which is an anti-inflammatory and increases circulation. A drop of eucalyptus oil or clove may be included too.

Injuries and swelling should generally not be treated with heat but heat therapy is extremely beneficial for those with painful, stiff muscles. Chronic conditions like arthritis benefit from heat treatment. A wrap heated up in the microwave provides instant relief and as the circulation is stimulated, so the muscles begin to relax and feel less painful. Another benefit is that it can be taken anywhere and used anytime. Many individuals find it useful in helping them to wind down before going to bed.

Cold therapy is beneficial in cases of swelling or when muscles have been overstressed following a fitness activity. Placing a wrap in a resealable plastic bag and storing it in the freezer means that it is always available when needed. The cold allows the area to rest, reducing any swelling and numbing the aches with an analgesic effect.

The variety of items offered by online suppliers can be quite daunting when trying to make a selection. Sometimes reviews written by customers about a specific product can be helpful. A reputable supplier must be chosen to avoid purchasing cheap and ineffective products containing inferior fillers.

Spa neck wraps provide welcome relief in the comfort of your own home. They are simple to use, effective and inexpensive when compared with massages and going to a physiotherapist. One does not have to boil water, install batteries or plug into an electrical outlet wires to obtain effective relief from muscle spasms and pain.
